Busy week: Rain, planting, rain, planting, rain and Museum May Festival

The third week of May has been pretty busy for PaprikaMolnar: after several starts and stops and restarts we eventually transplanted our paprika seedlings to their final place in our farm. It’s a small plot of land this year, but planting has never been so hard with rain coming down every day, between which we had to find dry slots when the machine could go onto the field without gathering too much mud. But, we did it!

On 18 and 19 the Paprika Mill and Museum travelled to the Museum May Festival in Budapest, where we promoted our Paprika Museum and szegedi paprika culture. In our stand people could taste our paprika seed-oil, paprika powders and the latest products that we created: red snow, shepherds’ salt and hot paprika flakes.

 

We had great encounters with lovely visitors and customers. Most interesting of them was my encounter with Mihály Ráday, cameraman, film editor, art historian and cultural heritage civil conservator, who was cameraman of the film called Paprika People that was shot in my village, Röszke, in 1973. The film was shot in one of the last moments of traditional paprika history: it beautifully captured the essence of by-gone days, the looks, the voice and the movements of people I used to know in my childhood in my paprika village. Those times and those people will never come back, but they’re here with us, thanks to this film!!!
